The firm was founded by Andy Levison in 2002 as Levison & Co. Andy created Levison & Co. as a pledge fund to invest in growth-oriented businesses in the lower middle market. In 2005, the firm raised $125 million of committed capital for Fund I. Building on its pledge fund experience, Fund I’s strategy was refined in several ways.

Deal sourcing and expert networks were formed around the three industry sectors the firm focuses on today. And the firm established itself as one of the leading lower middle private equity funds making investments in growth oriented companies. Over the life of the two funds, Southfield Capital has invested in over 20 companies, including both platform investments and add-on acquisitions.
